Celebrating Naziha Salim- Google Doodle


Naziha Salim was a painter, professor and one of the most influential artists in Iraq's contemporary art scene

Salim was born in the year 1927 in Istanbul, Turkey.

His father was a painter and his mother was an embroidery artist.

Salim also had three brothers who all worked in the arts.

His brother Jawad was widely known as Iraq's most influential sculptor.

His brother Suad Salim was a designer and his third brother Rashid was a political cartoonist.

Coming from such an artistic family, Salim was inspired to compose from a very young age.

Salim studied painting and graduated from the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts.

She was also active in the arts community of Iraq.

Salim also authored "Iraq: Contemporary Art", a handy resource for the early development of Iraq’s modern art movement.

Salim's artwork is available at the Sharjah Art Museum and the Modern Art Iraqi Archive.
