2022 U.S. Open leaderboard breakdown: Adam Hadwin leads as Rory McIlroy tops stars threatening after Round 1

The world's best players are attending the 122nd U.S. Open as big names drop out at The Country Club.

It started early Thursday with a nearly flawless 3-under 67 effort with Rory McIlroy at the top of the leaderboard.

After dropping a shot late in his round, McIlroy would later be matched at 3 under by Joel Dahman, MJ Dapheu and a pair of European counterparts.

"You'd make 67 rounds of this golf course on any given day," McIlroy said.

"Even though I'm a little disappointed standing here that I bogged down in the last, it's a great start to the tournament.

I felt like I did most things well today.

I definitely did well, and I hit the ball in the right places, and I hit a lot of greens, giving myself plenty of chances.

Just basically did everything you need to do at the US Open."
